At 211 AM EST, snow showers were located along a line extending from near Railroad to near Haymarket to 7 miles northeast of Brandywine. Movement was southeast at 45 mph. Winds in excess of 30 mph are possible with these snow showers along with a quick coating to locally half inch or snow. Locations impacted include... Baltimore, Arlington, Alexandria, Columbia, Germantown, Centreville, Waldorf, Dale City, Frederick, Rockville, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Reston, Bowie, Severn, Leesburg, Annandale, Clinton, Olney, and Pikesville. This includes the following highways... Route 1 in Maryland between mile markers 8 and 4. Interstate 70 in Maryland between mile markers 35 and 93. Interstate 95 in Maryland between mile markers 2 and 52, and between mile markers 54 and 90. Interstate 270 in Maryland between mile markers 1 and 32. Use extra caution if you must travel into or through these dangerous snow showers. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads are likely to lead to accidents. Consider delaying travel until the squall passes your location. Conditions can deteriorate rapidly in winter weather situations. Be prepared for snow or ice covered roads. For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 10 to 25 degrees below zero expected. * WHERE...Portions of north central and western Maryland, northwest and western Virginia, and eastern and panhandle West Virginia. * WHEN...For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 4 AM Saturday to 10 AM EST Sunday. For the High Wind Warning, from 4 AM to 7 PM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 20 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wind chills will remain at or below zero during the day on Saturday due to windy conditions and cold temperatures.
