...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...Portions of central and south central Virginia, including the following counties and independent cities, in central Virginia, Chesterfield and City of Colonial Heights. In south central Virginia, City of Hopewell, City of Petersburg, Dinwiddie and Prince George. * WHEN...Until 800 PM EDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding including US 460 in Prince George County. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 139 PM EDT, Flooding continues across the warned area. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain have fallen since early this morning. Localized values of up to 9 inches fell just west of Petersburg. - Flooding impacts will continue through this afternoon. Additional storms that develop this afternoon may lead to new flooding, in which flash flood warnings would be issued. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - 2 to 4 inches of rainfall with localized higher amounts has fallen across portions of the watch area over the past 24 hours.
