...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE NORTHWESTERN CITY OF CHESAPEAKE, THE CITY OF NORFOLK, THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AND THE NORTHWESTERN CITY OF VIRGINIA BEACH... At 740 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. There are numerous instances of high water on roadways and stranded vehicles across portions of Norfolk and Portsmouth. Flash flooding is occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Virginia Beach, Norfolk State University, Downtown Norfolk, Downtown Portsmouth, Old Dominion University, Virginia Wesleyan University, Regent University, Kempsville, Churchland, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Ghent, Norview, Norfolk International, Western Branch, Wards Corner, South Norfolk and Portlock.
