SOUTHERN WYTHE...WESTERN CARROLL AND EASTERN GRAYSON COUNTIES IN SOUTHWESTERN VIRGINIA AND THE CITY OF GALAX THROUGH 300 PM EDT... At 132 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a cluster of strong thunderstorms over Stone Mountain State Park, or near Traphill, moving north at 20 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Wytheville... Galax... Hillsville... Sparta... Independence... Fries... and Traphill. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Expect moderate to heavy rain due to scattered showers and thunderstorms on today and tonight.
