...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE NORTHWESTERN CITY OF CHESAPEAKE, THE CITY OF NORFOLK, THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH AND THE NORTHWESTERN CITY OF VIRGINIA BEACH... At 740 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 2 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. There are numerous instances of high water on roadways and stranded vehicles across portions of Norfolk and Portsmouth. Flash flooding is occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... At 731 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Regent University, moving east at 10 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph, pea size hail, and heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Reduced visibility and minor flooding possible. This strong thunderstorm will be near... Virginia Beach, Regent University, Norfolk, and Chesapeake around 735 PM EDT. Kempsville around 740 PM EDT. Other locations impacted by this storm include Greenbrier, South Norfolk, Oceana, Portlock, Princess Anne Plaza, Oceana NAS, Gallups Corner, London Bridge, and Pungo.
