...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 115 AM EDT WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of southwest Virginia, including the following
counties and independent city, Carroll, City of Galax and Grayson.

* WHEN...Until 115 AM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is
imminent.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 1014 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly in the advisory area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have
fallen.
- This includes the following streams and drainages...
Piney Creek, Dixon Branch, Mill Creek, Oglesby Branch,
Chestnut Creek, Little Cranberry Creek, New River, Crooked
Creek and Glady Fork.
Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over
the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 315 AM EDT WEDNESDAY
FOR NORTHWESTERN STOKES, NORTHEASTERN SURRY, SOUTH CENTRAL CARROLL
AND SOUTHWESTERN PATRICK COUNTIES...

At 935 PM EDT, local law enforcement reported thunderstorms
producing heavy rain. Flash flooding has been observed in Mt Airy.
Between 3 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall
rate is 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2
inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already
occurring.

HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.

SOURCE...Law enforcement reported.

IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.
