In south central Virginia, Brunswick, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg and Prince George (including Hopewell and Petersburg). In southeast Virginia, Greensville, Hampton/Poquoson, Isle of Wight, James City, Newport News, Southampton, Surry, Sussex and York. * WHEN...Through Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Showers and thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread overnight. An additional 1 to 3 inches of rain are possible with locally higher amounts. This is in addition to any rain that already fell, which was highest from east- central Virginia to the Virginia Eastern Shore. ...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EDT THURSDAY FOR NORTH CENTRAL NORTHAMPTON AND ACCOMACK COUNTIES... At 1123 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Exmore, Onancock, Parksley, Tangier, Onley, Accomac, Melfa, Bloxom, Wachapreague, Painter, Hallwood, Keller, Tasley, Clam, Guilford, Locustville, Nelsonia, Modest Town, Mappsville and Pungoteague. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
