...A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of northwestern Salt Lake, central Davis and east central Tooele Counties through 115 PM MDT ... At 1239 PM MDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 12 miles north of Stansbury Park, or 17 miles northeast of Grantsville, moving northeast at 15 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible. Locations impacted include... Salt Lake City, Syracuse, Great Salt Lake South of the Causeway, and Antelope Island State Park. This storm will be capable of producing strong gusty winds on the Great Salt Lake. This will lead to a sudden increase in waves and very choppy waters which will result in hazardous boating conditions. Boaters are urged to seek safe harbor if possible. This includes Interstate 80 in Utah between mile markers 89 and 92, and between mile markers 101 and 109. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding.
