...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 1045 AM MST THIS MORNING...

* WHAT...Small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is
expected. Significant rises are being reported on the North Fork
of the Virgin River and the mainstem Virgin River as well as Coal
Creek and the Santa Clara River. While mainstem river flooding is
not expected, rivers will continue to run high and fast.

* WHERE...A portion of southern Utah, including the following
counties, Iron, Kane and Washington.

* WHEN...Until 1045 AM MST Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, slot canyons,
normally dry washes and other low-lying and flood-prone locations
is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess
runoff from earlier rainfall. It will take several hours for all
the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 444 AM MST, trained weather spotters reported heavy rain
in the warned area. Flooding is already occurring. Between 2
and 5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.5 inches are
possible in the warned area.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Zion National Park, Washington, Hurricane, La Verkin, New
Harmony, Quail Creek State Park, Apple Valley, Dameron
Valley, Gunlock State Park, Toquerville, Leeds, Virgin,
Springdale, Kanarraville, Rockville, Pintura, Kolob Canyon,
Pine Valley and Pinto.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry
washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
