Central Kane County in southern Utah... * Until 745 PM MDT. * At 148 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across Lick Wash Slot Canyon down to and including Buckskin Gulch. Up to 1 inch of rain has fallen in the upper headwaters near Lick Wash. Additional storms are anticipated to move into the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. At 139 PM MDT, Zion National Park officials reported flash flooding in most slot canyons from thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the park. Between 0.25 and 1 inch of rain has fallen, with the highest amounts on the west side of the park, including over Kolob Canyon. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.15 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. Warm overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s will offer little relief. * WHERE...Capitol Reef National Park and Vicinity, Glen Canyon Recreation Area/Lake Powell, South Central Utah, Western Canyonlands, Lower Washington County, and Zion National Park. * WHEN...From noon Friday to 9 PM MDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
