...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 430 PM MDT THIS AFTERNOON FOR SOUTHERN GARFIELD AND NORTH CENTRAL KANE COUNTIES... At 314 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated earlier thunderstorms produced heavy rain across areas southeast of Bryce Canyon, including Tropic, Bull Valley Gorge, Willis Creek, Sheep Creek, Herm Pollock Slot Canyon, and upper reaches of the Paria River. Up to 2 inches of rain have fallen primarily over Tropic and the headwaters of the Paria River. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks, streams, slot canyons, and normally dry washes. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Bryce Canyon National Park, Tropic, Cannonville and Kodachrome Basin State Park. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Up to 1 inch of rain has fallen in the upper headwaters near Lick Wash. Additional storms are anticipated to move into the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Warm overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s will offer little relief. * WHERE...Capitol Reef National Park and Vicinity, Glen Canyon Recreation Area/Lake Powell, South Central Utah, Western Canyonlands, Lower Washington County, and Zion National Park. * WHEN...From noon Friday to 9 PM MDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
