...A STRONG THUNDERSTORM WILL IMPACT NORTHERN FORT BEND... SOUTHEASTERN WALLER AND NORTHWESTERN HARRIS COUNTIES THROUGH 530 PM CDT... At 445 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Cypress, or 8 miles west of Jersey Village, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Katy, Jersey Village, Addicks Park Ten, Spring Branch North, Greater Greenspoint, Spring Branch West, Westbranch, Fairbanks / Northwest Crossing, Willowbrook, Cypress, Hidden Valley, Acres Home, Greater Inwood, Carverdale, Langwood, Central Northwest, and Spring Branch Central. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. The National Weather Service in League City has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... East Central Austin County in southeastern Texas... Harris County in southeastern Texas... Southern Waller County in southeastern Texas... * Until 745 PM CDT. * At 441 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 3 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 3 to 4 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Sealy, San Felipe and Pattison. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. ...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 715 PM CDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Texas, including the following counties, Austin, Harris, Montgomery and Waller. * WHEN...Until 715 PM CDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 409 PM CDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 2 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Rainfall rates in excess of 4 inches per hour have been observed. - Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... ...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of southeast Texas, including the following areas, Inland Harris, Montgomery and Waller. * WHEN...Through Monday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Slow moving, training showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop somewhere within the watch area this afternoon and continue into this evening or overnight tonight. Generally expecting totals of 1 to 3 inches, but isolated higher amounts of 3 to 6 inches will be possible if strong thunderstorms move over the same area.
