...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM MDT /2 AM CDT/ WEDNESDAY FOR EAST CENTRAL LEA AND WESTERN GAINES COUNTIES... At 1106 PM MDT /1206 AM CDT/, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Hobbs, Nadine, Monument, Higginbotham, Knowles, Paynes Corner, Industrial Airpark and Lea County Regional Airport. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. In western Texas, Andrews, Crane, Dawson, Ector, Gaines, Loving, Martin, Midland, Reeves County Plains, Upton, Ward and Winkler. * WHEN...Through Wednesday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Tropical moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Polo will overspread the region, which will promote heavy rain across southeast New Mexico and far west Texas.
