...Arctic-like Cold Air for Sunday through Monday Morning... A strong arctic-like cold front will move across the Tennessee valley and southern Appalachians Saturday night with frigid temperatures surging into the region for Sunday and Sunday night. Temperatures Sunday will struggle to climb into the 20s to lower 30s and teens in the mountains. Northwest winds will be brisk with gusts from 15 to 25 mph, up to 35 mph across the higher elevations. For Sunday, the cold air combined with the brisk northwest winds will drop wind chills into the teens in the valley, single digits for the Plateau and southwest Virginia, and 5 to 10 below zero across the mountains. For Sunday night, wind chills will fall into the single digits in the valley and Plateau, and 5 to 15 below zero across the mountains. Besides the cold, snow showers or flurries can be expected Sunday morning with light accumulations across the far east Tennessee and southwest Virginia mountains. When venturing outside Sunday through Monday morning be prepared for the very cold temperatures and dress appropriately.
