The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a * Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Southwestern Todd County in south central South Dakota... Eastern Bennett County in southwestern South Dakota... * Until 815 PM MDT /915 PM CDT/. * At 710 PM MDT /810 PM CDT/, a severe thunderstorm was located over Lacreek Wildlife Refuge, or 8 miles southeast of Martin, moving southeast at 35 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and half dollar size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect considerable tree damage. Wind damage is also likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. * Locations impacted include... Martin, Spring Creek, Tuthill, Vetal, Harrington, Sunrise Housing, Lacreek Wildlife Refuge, southwestern Rosebud Reservation and southeastern Pine Ridge Reservation. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Anyone outdoors should move to shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. This storm is capable of producing widespread damaging winds and large hail. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms.
