Air Quality Alert
Issued: 1:21 PM Apr. 15, 2026 – National Weather Service
...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT... The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) has issued an Air Quality Alert for fine particulates for Horry County through Wednesday, April 15th. An Air Quality Alert means that the fine particulate concentrations within the specified areas may approach or exceed unhealthy standards due to a large wildfire in Marion County and continued smoke in the Conway area. High pressure over the Southeast U.S. will continue to dominate the region today and tomorrow, minimizing smoke dispersion from the ongoing wildfire in Marion County. Stable conditions and little wind will enhance the noticeability of smoke, especially in the overnight and morning hours. Stagnant conditions are expected to pin smoke to ground level until midday Wednesday. SCDES recommends that individuals with respiratory health issues limit time spent outdoors and/or move all activities indoors to avoid the smoke or fine particulates. Keep windows and doors closed. Run an air conditioner if you have one but keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent outdoor smoke and fine particulates from getting inside. Please note that locations closest to the wildfire activity are more likely to experience smoke at any given time.
