...THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING FOR NORTHWESTERN LEXINGTON AND
NORTHWESTERN RICHLAND COUNTIES WILL EXPIRE AT 600 PM EDT...

The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe
limits, and no longer poses an immediate threat to life or property.
Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire.  However, heavy
rain is still possible with this thunderstorm.

Issued: 9:19 PM May. 23, 2026 – National Weather Service
...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 715 PM EDT THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...A portion of central South Carolina, including the
following counties, Lexington and Richland.

* WHEN...Until 715 PM EDT.

* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is
imminent.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 518 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream
flooding. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Columbia, Lexington, West Columbia, Cayce, Irmo, Springdale,
Oak Grove, Highway 6 at Lake Murray Dam, St. Andrews, Red
Bank, South Congaree, Pine Ridge, Columbia Metro Airport,
Harbison State Forest, Riverbanks Zoo, Columbia International
University, West Columbia Riverwalk, Seven Oaks, Pine Island
and Barr Lake.

Interstate 126 between mile markers 0 and 3.
Interstate 26 between mile markers 100 and 113.
Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 49 and
70.
