SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 608 REMAINS VALID UNTIL 9 PM EDT THIS EVENING FOR THE FOLLOWING AREAS IN GEORGIA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 2 COUNTIES IN EAST CENTRAL GEORGIA BURKE RICHMOND IN SOUTH CAROLINA THIS WATCH INCLUDES 12 COUNTIES IN CENTRAL SOUTH CAROLINA AIKEN BAMBERG BARNWELL CALHOUN CHESTERFIELD CLARENDON KERSHAW LEE LEXINGTON ORANGEBURG RICHLAND SUMTER THIS INCLUDES THE CITIES OF AIKEN, AUGUSTA, BAMBERG, BARNWELL, BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, BISHOPVILLE, BLACKVILLE, BROOKDALE, CAMDEN, CAYCE, CHERAW, COLUMBIA, DENMARK, ELGIN, LEXINGTON, LUGOFF, MANNING, NORTH AUGUSTA, OAK GROVE, ORANGEBURG, PAGELAND, RED BANK, SEVEN OAKS, ST. ...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 545 PM EDT FOR CENTRAL CALHOUN...SOUTHWESTERN SUMTER AND SOUTHEASTERN RICHLAND COUNTIES... At 531 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Poinsett State Park, or 12 miles southeast of McEntire Air Base, moving northeast at 20 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and nickel size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to trees and powerlines. Locations impacted include... Sumter, South Sumter, Shaw Air Base, St. Matthews, Eastover, Oakland, Gadsden, Millwood, Poinsett State Park, Pinewood, Cane Savannah, Dinkins Mill, Fort Motte, Lakewood, Privateer, Wedgewood, Cherryvale, and Stateburg. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. At 513 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Sandy Run, or 13 miles south of Cayce, moving northeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Locations impacted include... Columbia, Cayce, McEntire Air Base, Gaston, Eastover, SC State Farmer's Market, Congaree National Park, Hopkins, Sandy Run, Fort Jackson, Gadsden, Horrel Hill, Swansea, Woodford, New Zion, Dinkins Mill, Lexington Acres Pond, Fort Jackson Wildcat Road, Boykin, and Fort Jackson McCrady Training Center. This includes the following highways... Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 80 and 89. Interstate 26 between mile markers 117 and 133. Interstate 77 between mile markers 2 and 11.
