...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 530 AM EDT EARLY THIS MORNING FOR NORTHERN NEW CASTLE, NORTHWESTERN BURLINGTON, NORTHWESTERN CAMDEN, NORTHWESTERN GLOUCESTER, SOUTHEASTERN BUCKS, CHESTER, DELAWARE, SOUTHEASTERN MONTGOMERY AND PHILADELPHIA COUNTIES... At 338 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms produced heavy rain across the warned area. Additional storms will impact the warned area through 530 AM. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 30 minutes. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Philadelphia, Camden, Wilmington, Newark, West Chester, Gloucester City, Cherry Hill, Bensalem, Mount Laurel, Norristown, Chester and Willingboro. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In New Jersey, Camden, Gloucester, and Northwestern Burlington Counties. In Pennsylvania, Delaware, Eastern Montgomery, Lower Bucks, and Philadelphia Counties. * WHEN...From 11 AM this morning to 8 PM EDT this evening. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
