...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 430 PM EDT FOR ALLEGHENY, NORTHWESTERN WESTMORELAND, SOUTHWESTERN ARMSTRONG, SOUTHERN BUTLER, NORTHEASTERN BEAVER AND SOUTHEASTERN LAWRENCE COUNTIES... At 344 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line from near Meridian to over Whitehall, or along a line from 6 miles northwest of Butler to over Bethel Park, moving east at 35 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. At 330 PM law enforcement reported trees and power lines down across the Zelienople area of Butler County. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Pittsburgh, Penn Hills, Mount Lebanon, Bethel Park, Ross Township, McCandless Township, Monroeville, Cranberry, Greensburg, McKeesport, Butler, Franklin Park, Jeannette, Vandergrift, Kittanning, Apollo, Shaler Township, Plum, West Mifflin and North Side Pittsburgh. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Seek shelter inside a well-built structure and stay away from windows. These storms have produced damaging winds. Intense thunderstorm lines can produce brief tornadoes and widespread significant wind damage. Although a tornado is not immediately likely, it is best to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. ...STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON... A line of thunderstorms will continue to move east across the region this afternoon. Some of these storms could contain wind gusts up to 50 mph. There is also a potential for severe storms with damaging wind gusts of 60 mph. The storms should approach the Pittsburgh area between 3:30 and 4 pm. Severe thunderstorm warnings may be needed. In addition, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 8 PM.
