Special Weather Statement
Issued: 10:58 AM Dec. 30, 2025 – National Weather Service
...LAKE EFFECT SNOW BANDS THIS MORNING... Strong west-northwest winds and moisture streaming off the relatively warmer waters of the Great Lakes will generate narrow, slowly-meandering bands of briefly heavy lake effect snow. These snow bands will impact portions of I-99 in Blair and Centre County between mile markers 15 and 85, I-80 between mile marker 138 and 193, as well as roadways in Huntingdon, Cameron, Clinton, Mifflin, Lycoming Tioga, Sullivan and Potter counties for the next several hours. Bands of lake effect snow can quickly reduce visibility and cause rapid accumulations of snow greater than one inch per hour. The reduced traction and blinding visibility of a snow band can make travel very dangerous very quickly. Use extra caution if you must travel this morning. If you encounter bands of heavy snow, slow down, turn on your hazard lights and consider exiting the highway. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads may lead to accidents. Allow plenty of stopping distance between you and the vehicle ahead. Avoid braking suddenly.
