In California...Fire weather zones 280 and 282. ...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM PDT WEDNESDAY UMPQUA VALLEY... * WHAT...Hot temperatures of 95 to 100 degrees with low temperatures around 60 to 65 degrees. * WHERE...The Umpqua Valley in central Douglas County, including the communities of Roseburg, Elkton, Drain, Sutherlin, Tiller and Camas Valley. * WHEN...Until 11 PM PDT Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures will lead to a moderate risk of heat illnesses, especially for those without adequate cooling methods. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Periods of smoke could limit the ability to open windows for cooler air at night. ...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE... Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory...in effect until further notice for eastern Douglas County... The Castle Fire and wildfires to the north combined with northerly winds will cause air quality levels to lower through the next few days. Smoke levels will change over the next few days due to varying wind direction and fire activity. Some improvement is expected towards the end of the week. People at risk include infants and young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults and pregnant people. People can take the following precautions to protect their health: * Follow local burn restrictions to prevent deteriorating air quality. * Avoid strenuous outdoor activity during periods of poor air quality. * People with heart or lung problems and young children are especially vulnerable. These people should stay indoors while smoke levels are high. * Use certified High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filters in indoor heating, ventilation, cooling and air purification systems.
