...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST FRIDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow occurring. Additional snow accumulations of 3 to 12 inches. The heaviest totals are expected across the higher terrain of eastern Cuyahoga County, southern Lake County, inland Ashtabula County and Geauga County with lighter amounts near the lake. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula Inland counties. * WHEN...Until 7 PM EST Friday. * IMPACTS...Whiteout conditions are expected within lake effect snow bands and will make travel treacherous and potentially life- threatening. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thanksgiving holiday travel. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snowfall will continue to gradually focus farther inland into tonight. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will occur within snow bands through tonight, especially across eastern Cuyahoga County and southern Geauga County. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission strongly encourage motorists to heed all travel restrictions and delay unnecessary travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions. &&
