...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1045 PM EDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of southeast New York, including the following counties, western Suffolk and southeastern Nassau. * WHEN...Until 1045 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 736 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain. Between 1/2 and 3/4 inch of rain has fallen in spots. - Additional rainfall of up to 1/2 inch is expected. - Some locations that could experience minor flooding include... Islip, Brentwood, Commack, Huntington Station, Centereach, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, Massapequa, Hauppauge, Ronkonkoma, Huntington, Stony Brook, Babylon, Farmingdale, Port Jefferson, Northport, Robert Moses State Park, Jones Beach, Coram and Holbrook. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... ...DENSE FOG ADVISORY NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 2 AM EDT TUESDAY... ...GALE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM EDT TUESDAY... * WHAT...For the Dense Fog Advisory, dense fog will reduce visibility to 1/4 NM or less. For the Gale Warning, south winds 25 to 35 kt with gusts up to 45 kt, becoming west late tonight. Waves 2 to 4 feet. * WHERE...The south shore and eastern bays of Long Island. * WHEN...For the Dense Fog Advisory, until 2 AM EDT Tuesday. For the Gale Warning, until 6 AM EDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility. Low visibility will make navigation difficult. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners should alter plans to avoid these hazardous conditions. At 646 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 nm SE of Axel Carlson Reef to 8 nm SW of Shark River Reef to 25 nm SW of Buoy 44025, moving NE at 65 kt. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect a few lightning strikes and heavy downpours. Meanwhile, dense fog continues to reduce visibilities to below 1 nm. Isolated gusts to 60 mph possible. For the Dense Fog Advisory, visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog. * WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York. * WHEN...For the Dense Fog Advisory, until 1 AM EDT Tuesday. For the Wind Advisory, until 4 AM EDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Scattered tree limbs, as well as isolated trees and powerlines could be blown down. Power outages possible. Locally damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph are possible with any stronger thunderstorm activity this evening into tonight.
