Special Weather Statement
Issued: 7:03 PM Apr. 11, 2026 – National Weather Service
There is an elevated risk for fire spread through this afternoon across southeast New York. Northwest winds will continue to gust to 25 to 30 mph while relative humidity remains at 25 to 30 percent. These conditions, along with dry fine fuels, could support the rapid spread of any fires that ignite, which could quickly become difficult to control. Conditions should improve this evening as winds diminish and relative humidity increases. Minimum relative humidity on Sunday will be a bit higher than today, in the 30 to 40 percent range. South winds will be light in the morning, but may gust as high as 25 mph in the afternoon. New York's annual statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14. Use caution when handling any potential ignition sources, including machinery, cigarettes and matches. The forecast considers meteorological, fuel, and land conditions, and has been developed in coordination with state fire and land management officials.
