Northwestern Broome County in central New York... Southwestern Madison County in central New York... Southeastern Cayuga County in central New York... Cortland County in central New York... Chemung County in central New York... Tioga County in central New York... Southern Onondaga County in central New York... Southeastern Steuben County in central New York... Tompkins County in central New York... Northwestern Chenango County in central New York... * Until 730 PM EST. * At 644 PM EST, a dangerous snow squall was located along a line extending from near Lyndon to near Taughannock Falls to near Alpine to near Millerton, moving east at 40 mph. HAZARD...Flash freeze on roads. Intense bursts of heavy snow. Gusty winds leading to blowing snow and visibility rapidly falling to less than one-quarter mile. Wind gusts greater than 35 mph. SOURCE...Radar and webcams. IMPACT...Travel will become difficult and potentially dangerous within minutes. Locations impacted include... Onondaga, Syracuse, Chemung, Ithaca, Elmira, Cortland, Corning, Southport, Barton, and Big Flats. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Wet roadways will quickly freeze. Black ice will cause roads, bridges, and overpasses to become slick and dangerous. Slow down and be prepared for a sudden loss of traction. Reduce speed and turn on headlights! During snow squalls, the visibility may suddenly drop to near zero in whiteout conditions. Serious injuries and deaths may result from people exiting their vehicles during a snow squall. Drivers may not be able to see you or stop! If you have been involved in an accident or pulled to the side of the roadway, quickly exit your vehicle and move as far away from the roadway as possible ONLY when it is safe to do so. Do not stand along or near the roadway, since approaching vehicles may be unable to maintain control. && SNOW SQUALL...OBSERVED

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 to 2 feet, with localized higher amounts. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph will create widespread blowing snow, which could significantly reduce visibility. * WHERE...Madison, Northern Oneida, Onondaga, and Southern Oneida Counties. * WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities likely drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. Occasional blizzard conditions are likely to occur. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible, with up to 3 inches per hour possible during the overnight hours tonight into Tuesday morning. Widespread blowing snow will create whiteout conditions and occasional blizzard conditions. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
