Water Street is closed with homes on the east side of the street beginning to flood. Flooding affects homes on Monell Street and Monell Street Extension. Water spreads into the backyards of homes along N. Chenango Street. Birdsall Creek may be backing up along N. Chenango and Elm Street. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 10:00 AM EDT Sunday the stage was 6.7 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage this evening to a crest of 14.7 feet just after midnight tonight. The Chenango River at Norwich is expected to crest around 10 feet around midday. At this level, minor river flood occurs. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 904 AM EDT, Major flooding is ongoing in the warned area. Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. At least 10 people are stranded in the Norwich area due to the flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Between 3 and 5 inches of rain have fallen. Major flash flooding is already occurring and being reported across Chenango County. Numerous roads and bridges are flooded, as well as numerous homes taking on water, especially around Norwich, Sherburne, and New Berlin. At least 10 people are stranded due to flood waters. Chenango County is in a State of Emergency due to the flooding. No unnecessary travel in Chenango County is allowed. This is a FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY for Chenango County.
