...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE WATERS... The areas affected include... Long Island Sound... Peconic and Gardiners Bays... At 242 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and small hail. These thunderstorms were located around 30 miles west of and along a line extending from near Mouth of the Housatonic River to near Herod Point, moving northeast at 35 knots. Expect periodic thunderstorm activity across parts of Long Island Sound as well as the Peconic and Gardiners Bays before 415 AM EDT. Locations impacted include... Horton Point, Smithtown Bay, Stratford Shoal, Madison Reef, Gardiners Bay, The Race, Mattituck Inlet, Bridgeport, Shelter Island, and Central Long Island Sound. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, lightning strikes, and heavy downpours. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. &&
