For the Small Craft Advisory, west winds 15 to 25 kt with gusts up to 30 kt and waves 1 to 2 feet expected. For the Gale Watch, west winds 20 to 25 kt with gusts up to 40 kt. * WHERE...The Long Island south shore bays. * WHEN...For the Dense Fog Advisory, until 8 PM EST this evening. For the Small Craft Advisory, from 8 PM this evening to 6 AM EST Friday. For the Gale Watch, from Friday morning through Friday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Strong winds can cause hazardous waves which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility. Low visibility will make navigation difficult. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners should consider altering plans to avoid possible hazardous conditions. Patchy dense fog is possible this afternoon across the area with visibilities dropping to a quarter of a mile or less at times. The fog may persist into the early evening. Motorists encountering fog should use extra caution. Use low beam headlights or fog lamps, and allow extra braking distance between other vehicles.
