...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 815 AM EDT THIS MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Central Suffolk County in southeastern New York... * WHEN...Until 815 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 521 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1/4 to 1/2 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that could experience flooding include... Shirley, Manorville, Center Moriches, Southampton, Westhampton, Mastic, Mastic Beach, Davis Park, Hampton Bays, North Bellport, East Moriches, East Quogue, Brookhaven, Speonk, Bellport and Quogue. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... ...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EDT SUNDAY... * WHAT...One to two feet and locally up to 2 1/2 feet of inundation above ground level in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...Bronx, Northwest Suffolk, Northern Queens and Northern Nassau Counties. * WHEN...Until 6 PM EDT Sunday. * COASTAL IMPACTS...Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline, including roads, parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront. Numerous road closures are likely, and vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays. * SHOREFRONT AND BEACH IMPACTS...Breaking waves of 3 to 6 feet, along with elevated water levels, will result in areas of dune erosion with damage to a few waterfront structures possible. Splashover over seawalls and overwashes where dune structures are compromised may locally exacerbate flooding of roadways and vulnerable structures behind protective dunes. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take the necessary actions to protect flood prone property. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. && Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.
