...LAKE EFFECT SNOW BAND... HAZARDS...A lake effect snow band which can rapidly reduce visibility to less than a quarter of a mile. This lake effect snow band is producing very heavy snow at the rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. LOCATION AND MOVEMENT...At 359 PM EST, a lake effect snow band was near Averill Park, or 8 miles southeast of Troy moving east at 30 MPH. THIS LAKE EFFECT SNOW BAND WILL BE NEAR... Berlin around 405 PM EST. New Ashford around 420 PM EST. North Adams and Adams around 430 PM EST. Cheshire around 435 PM EST. Savoy around 445 PM EST. Hawley around 450 PM EST. This includes the following highways... Interstate 88 between exits 20 and 25. Interstate 90 between exits 10 and 30. Interstate 890 between exits 1a and 9. ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM EST SATURDAY... * WHAT...Lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches. Total snow accumulations 2 to 6 inches in the heavier bands. Winds gusting as high as 35 to 40 mph. Areas of blowing snow. * WHERE...Schoharie, Montgomery and Fulton Counties. * WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions could impact the holiday travel. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The heavy lake effect snow showers may briefly produce snowfall rates of an inch an hour. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly.
