...FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING... * WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of central New York, including the following areas, Cortland, Madison, Northern Oneida, Onondaga, Schuyler, Seneca, Southern Cayuga, Southern Oneida, Steuben, Tompkins and Yates. * WHEN...Until 8 AM EDT this morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Periods of moderate rainfall continues to fall over the northern Finger Lakes region and western Mohawk Valley after 1-3 inches of rain has fallen in the past 12 hours. ...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 615 AM EDT THIS MORNING... * WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of central New York, including the following counties, Cayuga, Cortland and Onondaga. * WHEN...Until 615 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 359 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated moderate rain continuing to fall over the warned area. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Up to 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.2 inches are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Auburn, Baldwinsville, Owasco, Sennett, Fleming, Otisco, Skaneateles, Locke, Marcellus, Preble, Jordan, Moravia, Camillus, Niles, Scott, Sempronius, Kelloggsville, Melrose Park, Casowasco and Cascade. - Emergency management has reported widespread flooding in the town of Jordan around the Skaneateles Creek. Also, the Owasco Inlet at Moravia is in moderate flood stage and expected to remain there for at least the next few hours. - https://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely. &&
