* WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 1 to
2 feet across Oswego County, with localized amounts of around 3
feet where lake effect snow persists the longest. Snowfall rates
of 3 to 5 inches per hour likely in the most intense bands.
Additional accumulations of 6 to 12 inches across far southern
Jefferson and western Lewis counties, with most of that falling
early this morning.

* WHERE...The Eastern Lake Ontario Region. The greatest additional
snow amounts will focus across Oswego County. Additional snowfall
in Jefferson County will only be across the southern end of the
county, and in Lewis County the western Tug Hill region, with
minimal amounts elsewhere.

* WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult to nearly impossible with
near zero visibility and deep snow cover on roads. If you must
travel, be prepared for severe winter driving conditions and the
possibility of becoming stranded.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Widespread accumulating snow will create dangerous travel conditions.

Submit snow reports through our website or social media.

During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally
heavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions just
a few miles away. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather,
visibility, and road conditions.

Delay all travel. If you must travel, drive with extreme caution.
Take a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire
chains, booster cables, a flashlight, shovel, blankets, and extra
clothing. Also take water, non-perishable food, a first aid kit, and
anything else that would help you survive if you become stranded.
