Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller
vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.

South Shore Bays from Jones Inlet through Shinnecock Bay...

At 205 PM EDT, a strong thunderstorm was located over Fire Island
Inlet, moving east at 25 knots.

HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater and small hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and
suddenly higher waves.

The strong thunderstorm will remain over mainly open waters.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes.

Rip Current Statement

...HIGH RIP CURRENT RISK REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...Dangerous rip currents.

* WHERE...Southern Nassau, Southern Queens, Kings (Brooklyn),
Southeast Suffolk and Southwest Suffolk Counties.

* WHEN...Through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all
people entering the surf zone. Anyone visiting the beaches
should stay out of the surf. Rip currents can sweep even the
best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. In addition,
water temps remain in the upper 50s. So please be prepared
for the danger of cold water immersion.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you enter the surf zone, always have a flotation device with
you and swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax
and float, and do not swim against the current. If able, swim in
a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face
the shore and yell or wave for help. Also, wear cold water
protection, like a wetsuit or drysuit if you plan on spending
time in the water.

...Strong thunderstorms will impact portions of western Suffolk and
Nassau Counties through 230 PM EDT...

At 128 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Glen Cove to Oceanside. Movement was east
at 20 mph.

HAZARD...Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.

Locations impacted include...
Islip, Brentwood, Levittown, Freeport, Valley Stream, Commack, Long
Beach, Huntington Station, Deer Park, Lindenhurst, Glen Cove,
Plainview, Garden City, Massapequa and Hauppauge.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms and may lead
to localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
