***Band of Heavy Snow Moving into the Area*** A heavy band of snow along the Connecticut coast into western Long Island will continue to lift to the northwest with possible snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour rates impacting the area. Periodic bands of heavy snow will move across the area through the night as low pressure rapidly intensifies to the south. In between bands, snowfall rates may drop off to about an inch per hour. In addition, winds will become a factor as the night progresses. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.

...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EST MONDAY... * WHAT...Around 1 ft of inundation above ground level likely in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. * WHERE...A portion of southeast New York, including the following counties, Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester. * WHEN...Until 400 AM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Minor coastal flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect around 1 ft of inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 529 PM EST, This water level forecast has been leaned towards a high end scenario, providing a margin of safety. It is highly dependent on timing of windshift from northeast to north storm force winds with respect to the time of high tide. In New York, Southern Westchester County. * WHEN...From midnight tonight to 5 AM EST Monday. * COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread moderate flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline likely. 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level possible in low lying, vulnerable areas. This would result in numerous road closures and cause widespread flooding of low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront. Vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This water level forecast has been leaned towards a high end scenario, providing a margin of safety. It is highly dependent on timing of windshift from northeast to north storm force winds with respect to the time of high tide. ...BLIZZARD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST MONDAY... * WHAT...Blizzard conditions. Additional snow accumulations between 17 and 24 inches. Winds gusting as high as 60 mph. * WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York. * WHEN...Until 6 PM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are expected and will make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening. The damaging winds and weight of snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages. Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heaviest snow and strongest winds are expected tonight into Monday. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Travel should be restricted to emergencies only. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle. Check local Department of Transportation information services for the latest road conditions. A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring.
