Southwest winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph then expected Friday and Friday night. * WHERE...Jefferson and Lewis Counties. The strongest wind gusts will likely be found on the northern slopes of the Tug Hill Plateau and Black River Valley tonight. Strong gusts will be for the entire North Country region Friday and Friday night. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 AM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Strong winds will blow down trees and power lines. Scattered power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Strong winds will blow around unsecured outdoor holiday decorations. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Total snow accumulations 4 to 8 inches in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph. * WHERE...The Eastern Lake Ontario Region. Mainly southern Jefferson, northern Oswego, and western Lewis counties. * WHEN...From 1 PM Friday to 7 AM EST Saturday. * IMPACTS...Travel will be difficult. The hazardous conditions will impact the Friday evening commute. Gusty winds will lead to reduced visibility in blowing snow and down tree branches causing isolated power outages. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Minor snowfall accumulations are expected Friday morning as early morning rain transitions to snowfall. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Lake effect snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities.
