Flood Watch
Issued: 7:43 PM Oct. 9, 2026 – National Weather Service
...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH LATE SUNDAY
NIGHT...

* WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall and debris flows
is possible.

* WHERE...Portions of eastern, northeast, and south central Nevada,
including the following areas, in eastern Nevada, White Pine. In
northeast Nevada, Ruby Mountains and East Humboldt Range in Elko,
South Central Elko and Southeastern Elko. In south central Nevada,
Northeastern Nye and Northwestern Nye.

* WHEN...From Saturday evening through late Sunday night.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. In
addition, flash flooding is possible over recently burned areas
like the former Ward Fire, Kearny Fire, Oxley Fire, Secret Pass
Fire, Star Valley Fire, Jones Fire, and Egberts Fire. Other burn
scar locations in the watch area could also be affected.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Deep moisture from decaying Hurricane Rachel is expected to move
northward, crossing into portions of east-central and eastern
Nevada late Saturday night through roughly Monday. This
significant moisture will interact with upper level low pressure
to bring widespread showers with isolated thunderstorms to the
watch area. Moderate to locally heavy rain will cause excessive
runoff and may result in rock, mud, and debris flows in and near
former fire burned areas, steep terrain, and poorly drained urban
areas.
