...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 630 PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR BERNALILLO COUNTY... At 407 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms that produced heavy rain across the warned area have weakened. Between 0.75 and 1.75 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of less than one tenth of an inch is possible through 415 PM MDT. Even though storms have weakened, flash flooding is likely still ongoing. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Tijeras, Cedar Crest, Sandia Park, Sedillo, Canoncito in Bernalillo County, San Antonito and Carnuel. This includes Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 169 and 181. A weather station in Cedar Crest reported 1.73 inches of rainfall. Another station just north of Cedar Crest also reported 1.37 inches. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly or mountainous terrain there are numerous low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads.
