...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 915 PM MDT THIS EVENING FOR BERNALILLO, NORTHWESTERN TORRANCE AND SOUTHWESTERN SANTA FE COUNTIES... At 705 PM MDT, NWS employee reported flooding along State Road NM-333. Water flowing over low water crossing just east of Zuzax. Thunderstorms are producing heavy rain in East Mountains, including Tijeras, Cedar Crest, and Chilili. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Public reported. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Edgewood, Tijeras, Escabosa, Chilili, Sedillo, Cedar Crest, Cedar Grove, McIntosh, Sandia Park and Miera. This includes Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 173 and 193. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In north central New Mexico, Glorieta Mesa Including Glorieta Pass. * WHEN...From Sunday afternoon through Sunday evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Thunderstorms will develop across the central mountain chain midday Sunday slowly moving southwest into the eastern highlands during the afternoon and evening hours. These thunderstorms will be capable of produce locally heavy rainfall, with rates of up to 2 to 3 inches per hour.
