...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 815 PM MDT THIS EVENING... * WHAT...Arroyo and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of south central New Mexico, including the following county, Otero. * WHEN...Until 815 PM MDT. * IMPACTS...Rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 609 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause arroyo and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Karr Canyon, Cox Canyon, Lost River, Chiquita Creek, and PiC1on Creek - Some locations that may experience flooding include... Sunspot, Alamogordo, High Nogal, Benson Ridge, Hay Canyon, Karr Canyon, Boles Acres, Cox Canyon, Oliver Lee State Park and Bug Scuttle Ranch. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... In hilly terrain there are numerous low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall. &&

...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...A portion of south central New Mexico, including the following areas, East Slopes Sacramento Mountains Below 7500 Feet, Sacramento Mountains Above 7500 Feet and West Slopes Sacramento Mountains Below 7500 Feet. * WHEN...From Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Slow moving thunderstorms are expected to develop Saturday afternoon and with plenty of moisture in place, rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the Sacramento Mountains.
