* At 238 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Mescalero
Apache School, moving east at 20 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

Mescalero, Lake Mescalero, Cloudcroft, Silver Lake, Elk Silver,
Apache Summit, South Tularosa Canyon, Fence Canyon, Portions of US
Highway 70 between Apache Summit and the Otero-Lincoln County Line,
Eight Canyon, Mescalero Apache School, Mud Canyon, Snow Canyon,
Bear Canyon, Sixteen Springs, Dry Canyon, James Canyon, Soldier
Canyon, Horse Spring, and Carrizo.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Northwestern Otero County in south central New Mexico...

* Until 430 PM MDT.

* At 229 PM MDT, A line of thunderstorms is moving into the
Sacramento Mountains, with rainfall rates up to 4 inches per hour.
While the heaviest rainfall will be fairly brief, these rainfall
rates can still cause minor flooding in poor drainage areas. Worse
flooding can be expected in arroyos that flow west, including
Tularosa Creek. While heavy rain has moved east of Tularosa, low
water crossings will become flooded as runoff makes its way into
the Basin.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Mescalero, Tularosa, Bent, Burro Flats, La Luz, Lower Nogal Canyon,
Upper Nogal Canyon, Mescalero Apache School, South Tularosa Canyon
and Alamorosa.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.

* At 226 PM MDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 13 miles southwest
of Sunspot, moving north at 30 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
Sunspot, Alamogordo, Benson Ridge, Boles Acres, Oliver Lee State
Park, Bug Scuttle Ranch, Bluff Springs, and The Otero Mesa.

This includes the following highways...
Highway 70 in New Mexico between mile markers 210 and 212.
Highway 54 in New Mexico between mile markers 36 and 64.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be
possible.

* WHERE...Southwest New Mexico including Dona Ana, Otero, Luna,
Sierra, Grant, and Hidalgo Counties. Far West Texas, including El
Paso and Hudspeth Counties.

* WHEN...Through 6AM Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water
crossings may be flooded.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Tropical moisture will be transported northward ahead of decaying
Tropical Cyclone Polo today, bringing widespread showers and
thunderstorms to the region. High rainfall rates and repeated
rounds of rain up to 4 inches may result in instances of flash
flooding. Heavy rainfall from last week has saturated soils and
will elevate the flood threat further into Wednesday morning.
