Flash Flood Warning
Issued: 4:19 AM Jul. 23, 2025 – National Weather Service
The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has extended
the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Northwestern Otero County in south central New Mexico...

* Until 300 AM MDT.

* At 1019 PM MDT, Heavy rain has subsided across most of the warning
area, but runoff continues, and additional rain has fallen
upstream over Nogal Canyon.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams. The gauge
on Tularosa Creek near the west end of Gato Mountain
Road rose by about 4.5 feet between 9 and 9:30 PM,
reaching 6.5 feet, or 1100 cfs. Record flows are over
4000 cfs. Still, high flows are expected to flow
downstream towards Tularosa, likely making low water
crossings too dangerous to cross late into the night.
Also, heavy rainfall over Nogal Canyon will work into
Tularosa Creek, also supporting increased flows.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Tularosa, Lower Nogal Canyon and Bent.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
