Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 817 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. Between 2 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest New Mexico, including Sierra, Dona Ana, Luna, and eastern Grant Counties and the Sacramento Mountains in northern Otero County. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, arroyos, low water crossings, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - 24-hour rainfall observations shows a wide swath of 1-2" across much of south-central New Mexico. High soil moisture will allow runoff to occur quickly with any additional rounds of rain. Thunderstorms are expected to track north across the Watch area Thursday night into Friday morning, leading to localized flash flooding.
