...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 545 PM EDT FOR EASTERN HUNTERDON...MORRIS...SOUTHEASTERN SUSSEX...NORTHWESTERN MERCER...SOMERSET...NORTH CENTRAL MONMOUTH...MIDDLESEX AND CENTRAL BUCKS COUNTIES... At 508 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Ogdensburg to Chester to near White House Station to near New Hope, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. This line of storms has a history of producing tree damage. SOURCE...Law enforcement. IMPACT...Damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines is possible. Locations impacted include... New Brunswick, Perth Amboy, Morristown, Somerville, Newton, Somerset, Edison, Old Bridge, East Brunswick, Bridgewater, South Brunswick, Sayreville, North Brunswick, Carteret, Dover, Madison, Hopatcong, Middlesex, Princeton, and Florham Park. This includes the following highways... New Jersey Turnpike between exits 9 and 12. Interstate 78 in New Jersey between mile markers 19 and 42. Interstate 80 in New Jersey between mile markers 23 and 47. Interstate 287 in New Jersey between mile markers 0 and 54. Garden State Parkway between mile markers 119 and 133. Southwestern Sussex County in northwestern New Jersey... Central Warren County in northwestern New Jersey... * Until 800 PM EDT. * At 456 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low lying areas. * Some locations that may experience flash flooding include... ...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT SATURDAY... * WHAT...Heat index values up to 100 degrees. * WHERE...In New Jersey, Morris and Hunterdon Counties. In Pennsylvania, Upper Bucks, Western Chester, and Western Montgomery Counties. * WHEN...Until 8 PM EDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Warm and very humid conditions at night will not offer much relief from the heat and humidity. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
