...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE WATERS... The areas affected include... Sandy Hook NJ to Fire Island Inlet NY out 20 NM... New York Harbor... At 1046 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 7 nm west of Upper New York Harbor to near Jamaica Bay, moving east at 25 knots. Locations impacted include... Island Park, Upper New York Harbor, Barnum Island, Rockaway Inlet, Middle Bay, The Verrazano Narrows Bridge, Lower New York Harbor, and Jamaica Bay. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, lightning strikes, and heavy downpours. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. Lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects. &&
