...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM EDT THURSDAY FOR
WAKE COUNTY...

At 1134 PM EDT, local media and state government officials reported
couple roadways beginning to become impassable in the typical flood
prone areas around the Raleigh area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of
rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are
possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Local media and state government officials reported.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.

Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Raleigh, Durham, Cary, Wake Forest, Garner, Fuquay-Varina, RDU
International, Apex, Holly Springs, Morrisville, Knightdale,
Rolesville, William B Umstead State Park, Lake Wheeler, Lake
Benson, Research Triangle, Falls Lake Boat Ramp, Carpenter, Falls
Lake and Falls Lake State Rec Area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

* WHERE...A portion of central North Carolina, including the
following counties, Cumberland, Edgecombe, Franklin, Halifax,
Harnett, Johnston, Nash, Sampson, Wake, Wayne and Wilson.

* WHEN...Through late Thursday night.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- Slow moving thunderstorms capable of producing torrential
rainfall over already saturated soils may result in flooding
through Thursday night.
