...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT TONIGHT... * WHAT...Flooding caused by repeated rounds of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected. * WHERE...Portions of North Carolina, including the following counties, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Surry and Wilkes and southwest Virginia, including the following counties and independent city, Carroll, City of Galax, Floyd, Grayson and Patrick. * WHEN...Until midnight EDT tonight. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water over roadways. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 607 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated moderate heavy rain. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Up to 3 inches of rain have fallen since early this morning. Showers, heavy at times, will persist off and on into this evening. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Archies Creek, Beaver Creek, Bear Branch, Beaverdam Creek, Ararat River and Basin Creek. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Mount Airy... Galax... Flat Rock... Hillsville... Sparta... Stuart... In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of North Carolina, including the following areas, Alleghany NC, Ashe, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin and southwest Virginia, including the following areas, Carroll and Grayson. * WHEN...Through Tuesday evening. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Expect multiple rounds of moderate to heavy rain through tonight and scattered showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday and Tuesday night.
