Flood Advisory
Issued: 11:46 PM Oct. 10, 2026 – National Weather Service
...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 730 AM EDT SUNDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Southeastern Buncombe County in western North Carolina...
Northeastern Henderson County in western North Carolina...
Northwestern Rutherford County in western North Carolina...

* WHEN...Until 730 AM EDT Sunday.

* IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams
and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks,
greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and
parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible.
A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible. A
small culvert washout or two is possible

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 734 PM EDT, Light to moderate showers are moving from south to
north across the upper Broad/Rocky Broad River watershed,
including over Lake Lure. Storm-total rainfall of the 3-4 inches
have fallen over the past 12 hours. The rainfall has accumulated
steadily, allowing soils to slowly saturate and runoff to slowly
increase, resulting in steady rises in the small streams feeding
the Broad/Rocky Broad River. However, streams are approaching
bankfull conditions, and the streamgauge on the Rocky Broad River
near Bat Cave has just exceeded the Action/Advisory Stage of 6
feet. High flows along the Rocky Broad River into Chimney Rock
will result in water approaching US 64/74 (Main St) near Dogwood
RV Park. Isolated out-of-bank conditions are likely to develop
over the next 1-2 hours.

- Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to
develop over the next few hours and the threat will persist
through the early morning hours on Sunday. These showers and
storms will be very efficient at producing heavy rainfall. Soils
are saturated and streams are swollen. Therefore, additional
heavy rain may quickly create new areas of flooding and cause
previous areas of flooding to redevelop. As a result, Flash
Flood Warnings may be issued tonight. Caution is advised near
any stream or other vulnerable area. Seek higher ground
immediately if heavy rain develops. Please have a plan in place
should flash flooding develop and do not hesitate to act. Please
heed all evacuation orders from Emergency Management officials.

- Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Town of Lake Lure, Chimney Rock Village, and Bat Cave.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Flood Watch for flash flooding means there is a potential for rapid
onset flooding based on current forecasts. Flash flooding is a very
dangerous situation and may impact areas that do not typically flood.
Please monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to take action
quickly should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.

Rainfall of more than five inches in similar storms has been
associated with an increased risk of landslides, especially
fast-moving debris flows and debris slides. If you live on a
mountainside or in a cove at the base of a mountain, especially near
a stream, be ready to leave in advance of the storm and follow
evacuation orders from local officials. Consider postponing travel
along mountain roads during the heavy rainfall event.
