The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a * Special Marine Warning for... S of Cape Lookout NC to Surf City NC out to 20 NM... S of Ocracoke Inlet NC to Cape Lookout NC out to 20 NM... * Until 545 PM EDT. * At 419 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing waterspouts was located over Ar315, moving southeast at 10 knots. HAZARD...Waterspouts, wind gusts to 40 knots, and small hail. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Small craft could be damaged in briefly higher winds and suddenly higher waves. * Locations impacted include... Atlantic Beach, Bogue Sound, Northwest Places, Salter Path, Beaufort Inlet, Pine Knoll Shores, Ar320, R-8 Buoy, Cape Lookout Bight, Ar345, Beaufort, Emerald Isle, Ar315, Harkers Island, The Turning Basin, Ar340, and Ar330. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Move to safe harbor until hazardous weather passes. Thunderstorms can produce sudden waterspouts. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Seek safe harbor immediately. Frequent lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects. ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...A portion of eastern North Carolina, including the following areas, Beaufort, Duplin, Greene, Inland Onslow, Jones, Lenoir, Northern Craven, Pamlico, Pitt and Southern Craven. * WHEN...Through Saturday morning. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - A stalled front will interact with an anomalously moist airmass, supporting areas of intense rainfall rates as high as 2-3"/hr. These rates will support a risk of flooding and flash flooding, especially in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
