Southeastern Craven County in eastern North Carolina... * WHEN...Until 745 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Overflowing poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 442 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... At 439 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 6 miles southeast of Davis to near Bogue, moving south at 15 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Havelock, Morehead City, Newport, Harkers Island, Swansboro, Cape Carteret, North River, Sealevel, Marshallberg, Davis, Smyrna, Straits, Pine Knoll Shores, Harlowe, Otway, Broad Creek, Wildwood, Williston, Peletier, and Open Grounds Farm. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Prepare immediately for large hail and damaging winds. People outside should move to a shelter, inside a strong building and away from windows. To report severe weather contact your nearest law enforcement agency. They will send your report to the National Weather Service office in Newport. Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately.
